With traditional can printing, customers are still generally confronted with high minimum print runs. Thanks to the printing technology used, Nomoq can supply quantities individually specified by the customer - theoretically from a batch size of one. And now printing the deposit label also works.
The focus at Nomoq GmbH is on the Printing on aluminium beverage cans regardless of the order quantity (NO minimum order quantity). The company opened its production facility in Kirchheimbolanden (Rhineland-Palatinate) in August 2022 and works with inkjet technology. The digital printing technology offers customers an almost unlimited range of colours as well as full-surface and seamless printing. The last hurdle to distribution on the German market is also a thing of the past: The Affixing the Deutsche Pfandsystem GmbH label (DPG) for recognising cans at deposit machines is being implemented.
Development of new markets
Smaller quantities, such as 10,000 to 20,000 printed cans per design, are not only essential for the craft beer community. This also opens up completely new opportunities for larger manufacturers. They can tap into completely new markets with smaller editions tailored to specific customer groups. „Whether it's a special edition for a specific event, a market segment that has not yet been tapped into due to its small size or the start of an expansion abroad, for example - we can customise our Support customers and thus enable new user experiences“ explains Patrick Schweizer, CCO and co-founder of Nomoq. In addition to existing customers, usually producers of craft beer, he is also thinking of producers of lemonades, kombucha, hard seltzer, health and wellness drinks and energy drinks.
„Thanks to shorter delivery times than with traditional printing processes, we can help customers to respond at very short notice.“

More colours - more pizzazz
The inkjet technology process used by the specialists allows for almost unlimited number of colours and thus supports a special variety of motifs. The cans are printed seamlessly over their entire surface and the quality of the highly automated processes enables photorealistic images. Both matt and glossy motifs or a mixture of both are conceivable. Individual design elements can also be emphasised with spot varnish, which gives the cans a particularly high-quality feel, says Schweizer.
Now with DPG label

One final hurdle still stood between Nomoq's advanced printing technology and the subsequent marketing of the printed beverage cans on the German market. This problem centred around the Application of the Deutsche Pfandsystem GmbH label, the deposit labelling prescribed in Germany. „Previously, manufacturers had to apply the label themselves by hand using our printing process,“ says Schweizer. „From now on, we will take over the labelling and printing for our customers. The costs of the first half million DPG labels will be borne by Nomoq,“ emphasises Patrick Schweizer. With an annual order quantity of 150,000 cans, the company offers direct printing of the DPG labelling on the cans. The customer decides on the division into different production batches and designs. For smaller quantities of 5,000 or more, the DPG label is applied to the cans using stickers. „Customers with a sales market in Germany now also receive the finished, printed, fillable can from a single source“, emphasises Patrick Schweizer.
Nomoq's customer base already includes several hundred customers from over 20 countries in Europe. These include small and medium-sized beverage companies as well as larger ones such as Feldschlösschen in Switzerland, which is part of the Carlsberg Group.
Design simply realised
The company also supports customers with its design services when designing tins. As a rule, however, a customised design is simply uploaded to the website. All that is required is a separate account. Nomoq creates on this basis a sample tin within a few days and sends it to the customer. The final approval can be given with just one click. The beverage can experts can point to a number of successes. In 2022 and 2023, for example, the company won gold in its respective category („Beverage Two-Piece“) in the international „Can of the Year“ competition organised by the trade magazine „The Canmaker“.
