With EcoFloat, CCL Label has now developed a modern TD shrink sleeve material that enables the packaging industry to achieve its recycling targets. The Europe PET Bottle Platform (EPBP) has now confirmed and approved the new material.
The EPBP organisation is a voluntary industry initiative that provides guidelines for the Design of PET bottles for recycling solutions and technologies for the packaging industry and to promote understanding of the Impact of new innovations for PET bottles on recycling processes facilitated. It concludes that CCL's EcoFloat material has no negative impact on current European PET recycling, provided it is used under defined conditions. The findings are based on the results of the EPBP assessment and current market knowledge in 2020.
„Compliance with the EPBP standards was very important to us at CCL, as they reflect the performance of our material under real-life conditions and serve as a Important certificate for our customers is considered . EcoFloat has been developed to meet economic and environmental sustainability targets while improving the appearance of the product and maximising cost efficiency.“ Norbert Fenkart, Head of Research & Development, CCL Label
Bottle-to-bottle recycling possible
The EcoFloat material meets all CCL compliance standards and was developed to improve the sink/float separation process for recycling PET bottles. „This means that after the PET bottles have been crushed, they can be completely separate the sleeve components from the bottle flakes during the recycling process. When the PET bottle flakes sink to the bottom and the sleeve flakes float to the top, it is possible to separate the two materials into two different material streams until their next use. For the PET bottle in particular, this allows circulation - from bottle to bottle during recycling,“ adds Fenkart.

Environmental services provider Interseroh with its recognised valuation standard „Made for recycling“ rated the EcoFloat shrink sleeves as „very good“. Certificates are available for the use of sleeves on PET bottles, HDPE bottles and PP cups. Tests are currently underway for other containers.
