Freshly roasted coffee, but in a sustainable reusable bottle - that's the idea behind the new packaging with flavour lid recently presented by Siegburg-based roasting company Cofi Loco at Anuga.
Founder and Managing Director Uwe Prommer had set itself the goal of developing an alternative to conventional aluminium and plastic packaging - while still preserving the coffee flavour. „With the reusable bottle with flavour valve in the lid, we have taken the idea of sustainable distribution of high-quality coffee to a whole new level. More coffee enjoyment and environmental protection than with Cofi Loco does not work“, said the 56-year-old business economist at Anuga in Cologne. With the introduction of a brown returnable bottle and an improved flavour seal, the Cofi Loco even more flavour protection at Anuga.
The lid regulates the flavour of the maturing bean in the bottle
The unique selling point of the glass bottle is the specially developed flavour lid, which Cofi Loco has protected as a utility model. The coffee is filled into the bottles directly after roasting and sealed with the flavour lid. The pressure created as the beans continue to mature in the bottle gently escapes through a perforated filter in the lid. This process allows the full flavour to remain in the bottle. If the glass bottles are stored in the fridge, the cold and darkness also preserve the flavour.
For Uwe Prommer, there is more behind the company motto „Crazy about coffee“ than just a passion for the bean: „It is no longer enough to develop a high-quality product with passion and bring it to market. Fair Trade and committed Sustainable thinking and Environmental protection are just as important to us - and we are making a contribution to this with our world first.“
