As a technology partner, Optima has worked together with other companies to develop a sustainable travel set for personal hygiene products. The result is a bio-based concept that is characterised by renewable materials, low-energy production and user-friendliness. The result of the co-operation was presented at interpack.
Successful collaboration across the entire value chain and new technologies have made the new sustainable solution possible.T he concept is called „Trific“. In addition to Optima the companies Holmen Iggesund, Yangi and FutureLab & Partners. The project is intended to Motivating brands to switch to sustainable packaging.
„We are an innovation partner for sustainable packaging for our customers. Together with our partners, we develop a wide variety of sustainable packaging concepts. The Trific concept shows that new technologies in particular can reach market maturity more quickly through cross-value-added collaboration. With the solutions developed, we want to support our customers in achieving their own sustainability goals and offer end consumers more sustainable options. The approach shows how companies and brands can work together to find solutions to develop alternatives to their existing plastic packaging as quickly as possible. In doing so, we are also setting trends in the market.“

Another aim of the project is to accelerate the introduction of new sustainable premium packaging solutions for the healthcare, hygiene and cosmetics industries.
In the course of developing the biobased concept, the partner companies have worked together on research into optimised design, materials, dry-forming technology and end-of-line barrier solutions. The end result is a circular packaging solution with no material waste. The prototype was developed within six months. It contains three dry and innovative products: solid shampoo, body soap and solid toothpaste, which simply liquefy when used. The packaging itself consists of 100 per cent made from recyclable and renewable materials. Depending on the product and the required product protection, the packaging can also be designed to be biodegradable.
„Our materials and technologies for moulding, for barrier solutions and for filling and handling sophisticated products make a valuable contribution to improving health, safety and quality of life. Attractive products are created when they have high added value and a holistically sustainable design. This is made possible by new technologies and close collaboration in the value chain. The Trific travel set is the best proof of this and should serve as an application example.“
