Alpina is now labelling its paint buckets with a digital product passport. This contains information on the material, chemical substances and the correct disposal of the packaging - an important step towards an efficient circular economy. The data records come from the Jokey Group.
The Jokey Group produces for the first time Plastic packaging with a digital product passport (DPP). For Alpina Farben, a DAW SE brand, paint buckets are labelled with a corresponding QR code. The labelling can be used, for example, to call up recycling-relevant properties and ingredients of the packaging. „With the DPP, we create transparency along the entire value chain,“ explains Gustav Dengel, Product Manager Packaging at Jokey SE.
„The fact that all relevant packaging information is digitally documented and can be called up at any time means that we are also creating an important Prerequisite for a functioning circular economy for plastics“, Dengel continues. Jokey is one of the first manufacturers of rigid plastic packaging to produce a series product with DPP. Jokey relies on the digital product passport from R-Cycle to ensure global traceability of the packaging. The cooperation ensures a standardised DPP data infrastructure.
„Alpina is a pioneer in the industry when it comes to sustainable products and packaging. At least 70 per cent recycled plastic is already used in various Alpinaweiß containers. With the digital product passport, we want to actively support modern recycling systems and at the same time provide our customers with information, e.g. on CO2-footprint of the packaging in a transparent manner.“
Dorothee Kreis, Head of Packaging DAW SE
The Digital Product Passport (DPP) is a key element of the European circular economy strategy as part of the European Green Deal and the associated goal of achieving a climate-neutral economy by 2050. Until The digital product passport for plastics is to be introduced in the EU in 2030. become a reality. As an innovation leader in the field of rigid plastic packaging, Jokey has already implemented the DPP today. The product passport takes a data-driven approach to improve the recycling of plastic packaging. In the future, the markings will help recycling companies, for example, to automatically identify and sort packaging. The precise sorting of plastic waste enables the production of high-quality recyclates.
