Printing inks for food packaging must meet strict requirements - for example, the globally recognised standard of the Swiss Commodities Ordinance and the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) regulations of the European Printing Ink Association (EuPIA). At the European Coatings Show (ECS) from 4 to 6 April 2017 in Nuremberg, ECKART will be showcasing its portfolio that meets these regulatory requirements and is suitable for indirect contact with food.
The gold and silver products are characterised by their particular brilliance and are available for all common printing processes. These low-migration pastes and printing inks from ECKART are always labelled with the suffix FPG in addition to their product name (Food Packaging Grade). The products are mineral oil-free. The printing inks are manufactured in a separate production room. This completely prevents cross-contamination with other products.
More design options
ECKART's FPG products can be used to realise a wide variety of design ideas. Customised printing inks can be formulated using the FPG pastes. The ROTOSTAR FPG family offers pre-formulated gold and silver colour shades for water-based and UV-curing systems. For solvent-based systems, the PLATINSTAR and ULTRASTAR portfolio includes many new food packaging grade variants. The proven METALSTAR FPG 11 series is suitable for oil-based systems in offset printing.
According to the company, the new non-leafing silver inks in the UV range are unique in the industry: METALSTAR UV FPG 721 5000 n.l. for offset printing and ROTOSTAR UV FPG 77550 n.l. Silver for flexo applications. Both colours are based on non-leafing aluminium pigments and are ideal for colouring. The resulting metallic colour shades are much purer in colour than a formulation with leafing pigments. Due to the non-leafing properties of the pigments, overprinting is possible without any problems.
Further food packaging grade innovations are the LED-curing products for the Flexo and offset printing are shown. The METALSTAR LED FPG 722 series for offset printing is already on the market; LED colours for flexographic printing are to follow shortly.
