Transport can be quite a challenge for product safety. When pharmaceutical products are transported from A to B by air freight, for example, they are sometimes left outside exposed to the elements for several hours during loading. For this application, Bremerhaven-based Ecocool GmbH now offers its Eco-Xtreme thermal cover with water blanket.
This water-based gel-filled blanket increases the thermal mass of the palletised goods. It thus ensures greater temperature stability for air freight in the 15 to 25 degree Celsius temperature segment. According to the company, the combination of the thermal bonnet with its high insulating effect and the water blankets is suitable for handling air freight goods in extreme weather conditions.
Eco-Xtreme offers an increased insulating effect compared to the previously available bonnets. The weather protection is provided by the three-layer structure of the bonnetA reflective outer layer surrounds an insulation made of rPET fleece. This is directly connected to a reflective, low-heat radiating inner coating. The insulating centre is made of fleece, which is manufactured from recycled polyester fibres.
Boehringer Ingelheim is the first user
The first user of this innovative combination is Boehringer Ingelheim. The Ecocool customer previously used pallet shippers on particularly critical lanes. However, these are more expensive than thermal bonnets, more complex to handle and more time-consuming to pack. In its search for less material-intensive and more economical alternatives, the pharmaceutical manufacturer found what it was looking for at Ecocool.
Ecocool Managing Director Dr Florian Siedenburg explains the benefits of the combination: „Our high-performance thermal bonnet in conjunction with the water blankets is a sustainable solution in several respects. Firstly, it is more environmentally friendly than pallet shippers because less packaging material is required and the material used is more environmentally friendly. largely already made from recyclate becomes. Secondly, the combination is more cost-effective. In the case study, there was a predicted saving of around 500,000 euros per year at the piloted production site. Thirdly the Ecocool solution fulfils the tough performance requirements in terms of temperature stability and product protection. This is also shown by our analyses of the climate chamber tests.“
