A new smart label for investigational medicinal products has been launched by „E Ink Holdings“ and „Faubel & Co. Nachf. GmbH“ have introduced a new smart label for investigational medicinal products. Under the brand name „Faubel-Med“, the global supplier of functional labels is now marketing a label that enables continuous updating in medical warehouses and offers real-time reporting and documentation functions.
„Faubel-Med“ consists of a battery-free, always functional „ePaper display“ and a booklet label with integrated RFID technology. Even in sealed packaging, the segmented, bistable label shows the updated expiry date of clinical trial samples. For pharmaceutical companies, this is an alternative to constant relabelling when stability data changes.
Easier handling of test products
Konrad Zachman, Production Manager for New Technologies at Faubel, explains the new Smart label a „ground-breaking product“. It significantly simplifies the handling of test products within clinical trials. It fulfils all current and future conformity requirements.
Faubel expands with „Faubel-Med“ has added networked labels with RFID and ePaper technology to its range. „We believe that clinical trials will change as a result of this development,“ says Frank Jäger, Managing Director of Faubel, with conviction.
Innovative labels are thin, flexible and energy-saving
Paul Apen, Chief Strategy Officer at „E Ink“, names requirements for the new labels: „Displays for pharmaceutical packaging must be thin, flexible and energy-saving. Our ePaper displays are perfect for this application as they are thin and have features such as low voltage, easy readability, contrast and a wide reading angle.“ According to the manufacturer, the new low-voltage film from „E Ink“ requires around five volts compared to the typical 15-volt control voltage for electronic paper displays.
