The Portuguese wine brand Gatão is now presenting its white wine for the first time in an aluminium can from Ardagh. It has already successfully completed a test run.
Market leader Gatão is one of the first Portuguese brands to include the can in its packaging portfolio. According to the company, the first series of Gatão cans has already been well received by consumers. With the Gatão wine in a can, the Portuguese producer has the next generation of wine drinkers firmly in sight. The Tin with the cat from Ardagh is the ideal all-in-one party drink. The design comes from the Rita Rivotti studio.
Gatão wine in a recyclable aluminium can
The 250 ml aluminium can from Ardagh is unbreakable, light and quick to cool, easy to open and fits comfortably in the hand. Metal can also be recycled an infinite number of times without loss, and cans are also logistically efficient: a 250 ml can accounts for less than five per cent of the total product weight and helps to reduce overall transport costs.
"The launch of our Gatão Vinho Branco in a can is an innovative and bold move. In collaboration with Ardagh, we have been testing for over a year to ensure that our wine retains its perfect freshness and character in the can and we are delighted with the result." The success of Gatão's trial shows how ready the market is for new and creative ways of doing things, especially among the younger generation."
The cans are initially available in supermarkets and in the hotel, restaurant and café trade throughout Portugal and are soon to be expanded to Brazil, the United States, Spain, Canada and Cyprus, as well as a further 70 markets.
