The Viennese start-up Temprify has developed environmentally friendly transport coolers, bringing a resource-saving solution for the so-called „last mile“ problem to the market. Greiner is now expanding its contact with the start-up scene with a strategic investment.
As part of its activities in the field of Innoventures, Greiner is investing in the Viennese start-up Temprify, thereby connecting two previously loose ends: the expertise and infrastructure of a corporate group with the innovative strength and agility of a start-up. Greiner is thus taking an important strategic step in the scene and demonstrating its willingness to bring new ideas on board.

The idea in a nutshell: Founded in 2018, the Viennese start-up Temprify is the first company to offer Transport coolers as a complete dry ice-free system consisting of passively cooled reusable boxes and the associated infrastructure. These ensure compliance with the legally prescribed cold chain for food ordered online. The system was developed specifically for the needs of e-commerce for same-day delivery of chilled and frozen food. In contrast to previous last-mile solutions, the start-up thus offers a Cost-effective and climate-friendly alternative without active cooling and dry ice.
Temprify develops cost-effective solution for the last mile
A sustainable product idea that provides an answer to the problem of Last mile in the food sector and therefore also for Greiner is of interest. The Last mile is not possible due to the previously necessary active cooling of the vehicles and the use of dry ice. particularly cost-intensive. Together with Temprify, Greiner intends to further develop and expand the current solution in the future and thus find new routes from the producer to the end customer.
„We are convinced that, together with Greiner, we can become the long-term technology leader in a rapidly growing market and make a significant international and cross-industry contribution to a sustainable last mile.“ Moriz Lanzerstorfer, Managing Director of Temprify
At Greiner, resource-saving packaging and sustainable product design in turn contribute to the company-wide sustainability strategy. This results in a win-win situation for both sides: Greiner provides decades of expertise in the field of insulation/foam/food packaging, Temprify contributes innovative product ideas and know-how regarding passive cooling of food, with a common positive effect for the environmentThis not only reduces CO2-emissions by over 90 per cent, and food retailers also benefit from a significant reduction in operating costs compared to dry ice and active cooling.
„A good current performance is no guarantee for the future success of a company. To ensure long-term growth, Greiner therefore develops opportunities for future business just as professionally as it continuously improves and expands existing business areas. Greiner Innoventures also relies on the spirit and tools of the start-up scene in order to be where innovation happens.“ Axel Kühner, Chairman of the Management Board Greiner
From a geographical perspective, the former Greiner Technology & Innovation has also recently moved closer to the heart of the start-up scene: to the Austrian innovation hub weXelerate, based in Vienna.
„Thanks to our new location in Austria's largest innovation hub, we are focussing intensively on contact with the start-up scene and are constantly on the lookout for potential future investments, also outside the company's core business. We are constantly working on implementing new business models based on internal and external ideas outside of existing company structures.“ Hannes Möseneder, Innoventures Managing Director
