If the Greens have their way, cargo bikes should be subsidised. Other parties are outraged and the internet is making fun of it. Our contribution to this week's discussion: The right packaging for cargo bikes.
No matter what you think about the proposal to subsidise the purchase of cargo bikes. The means of transport are being used more and more frequently. In large cities in particular, it is not only families who use the large bikes, but also delivery services and tradespeople.
To ensure that the bulky and heavy vehicles arrive at their destination undamaged, the Thimm has developed transport packaging made from corrugated cardboard. This can be individually configured for any type of cargo bike, making it suitable for all possible types.
Assembled in just a few steps
The packaging consists mainly of sustainable corrugated cardboard in BC quality combined with a wooden pallet, recyclable connecting elements and a tension belt. Conventional padding materials made of foam or film were not used.
Instead, stable padding and wheel fixings made of corrugated cardboard provide optimum protection for the cargo bike during transport. The individual corrugated cardboard blanks for the packaging are delivered flat and bundled on the wooden pallet to the manufacturer and retailer and can be assembled in just a few steps: The cargo wheel is simply pushed into the corrugated cardboard base holders and secured with the tensioning strap.
Premiere at the bike fair
As push-fit fasteners are used instead of adhesive tape to secure the individual components during packaging, the packaging is not damaged by a cutter knife or similar when opened later. It can therefore also be reused for returns.
From 1 to 4 September 2021, interested trade fair visitors can see the new product for themselves: Thimm will be exhibiting the packaging with a cargo bike from Radkutsche at this year's international bicycle trade fair Eurobike (Hall B1, Stand 106).
Everyone is talking about cargo bikes
One thing is certain: the Green Party's call for a subsidy of up to 1,000 euros for a cargo bike has given the means of transport a new lease of popularity.

I don't live in Prenzlauer Berg, I don't even live on a mountain. I live in Darmstadt. I don't belong to the upper class, I'm more middle class, highly educated by means of 2nd chance education. I don't have a car.
