Consumer goods giant commits to the circular economy

Rethinking packaging: The consumer goods division of the international group Johnson & Johnson has signed the „New Plastics Economy Global Commitment“.

The consumer goods division of the international group Johnson & Johnson is committed to the circular economy: the consumer goods manufacturer has signed the „New Plastics Economy Global Commitment“.

As a signatory to this declaration, Johnson & Johnson Consumer is committed to two core issues of Circular economyOn the one hand, packaging should be 100 per cent reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025. Secondly, product packaging should contain more Recycled materials are utilised. Among other things, the company is investing in sustainable design and partnerships with various organisations.

Pooled initiative

To this end, Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc. Ellen MacArthur Foundation, the environmental programme of the United Nations and many industry-leading companies, governments and NGOs. For all of them, plastic waste avoidance and packaging reform are currently among the most pressing environmental issues of our time.

Focus on the German market

„Germany is a particularly exciting place for us to realise our global promise. Here there are already Excellent sorting techniques and what's more, from January 2019 the new packaging law. Together with our packaging suppliers and our Dual System partner, we are now scrutinising a number of measures, such as more recyclable packaging or the use of recyclates,“ explains Dr Stephen Raven, Vice President R&D EMEA at Johnson & Johnson on the situation and implementation of the sustainability agreement in the German market.
