With its own-brand K-Bio smoked salmon, Kaufland is now offering a second fish speciality in silphia packaging. The packaging is developed and produced by OutNature, a PreZero brand of the Schwarz Group. The processing of the silphia fibres requires less water and energy and is resource-efficient.
„The sustainable design of our product range is very important to us. We are always interested in offering our customers even more sustainable products. The smoked salmon from K-Bio is the second fish speciality from our own brand to be available in environmentally friendly packaging made from Silphie, thus once again combining sustainable packaging design with ecological fish farming.“
Bernd Bös, Managing Director Purchasing Fish
The new type of Silphie paper is now used to package the smoked salmon. It is resource-efficient and can be used in a variety of ways. In addition, less water and energy is used in the treatment process for the Silphie fibres and the packaging is more environmentally friendly. The fibres are obtained without the use of chemicals. instead. OutNature has succeeded in separating the fibres of the energy plant Silphie using a biothermal process prior to bioenergy production and using them as a new energy source, raw material produced in Germany to make.
Kaufland is also driving forward the sustainable orientation of its fish range. Wherever possible, the company offers fish from sustainably certified fisheries such as the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), EU Bio and GlobalGAP in the frozen food, chilled delicatessen and self-service areas of its own brands. These products are labelled accordingly so that customers can make a targeted choice. Kaufland is thus setting an example for more sustainability and higher standards in fish farming and fishing.
