Masterbatch manufacturer Lifocolor is expanding its LifoCycle portfolio to promote the circular economy. The product range for improving the recyclability of plastic components and packaging will be supplemented in future by white and NIR-detectable black concentrates as well as a filler protection based on a 100 per cent recycled polymer.
Solutions for the circular economy place high demands on the plastic raw materials used, especially with regard to the impact of subsequent and repetitive recycling processes. The Lifocolor Group has established its LifoCycle solutions for the refinement of such plastic applications and packaging made from PCRs (post-consumer recyclates) and PIRs (post-industrial recyclates). The masterbatch formulations are specially designed for recycling projects and provide ideal support for multiple processing with their properties. To help the increasing demand for products with a high proportion of recycled materials Lifocolor is further expanding its standard range with masterbatches on pure PCR/PIR carrier systems for recycled polyester (rPET) and polyolefins (rPP and rPE).
New developments in the commodities area at Lifocolor
The LifoCycle product range has recently been supplemented by three white concentrates on a complete recyclate basis for applications made from rPET, rPE and rPP. The colour masterbatches are characterised by very good results in terms of their opacity, light diffusion, weather fastness, abrasion effect, dispersion, refractive index and degree of whiteness. To optimise recyclability, Lifocolor has also developed a new NIR-detectable black variant on PCR carrier material for polyolefins. With this Coloured plastic products are detected by sorting systems in the near-infrared range (NIR) and can be fed into the recycling cycle in a polymer-specific manner. can be sorted, while other, conventionally black-coloured goods without successful NIR detection usually have to be disposed of thermally. An analysis report from the cyclos-HTP Institute confirms the successful identifiability and reliable sortability of the Lifocolour NIR black concentrates.
Like all LifoCycle colour masterbatches, the formulations are characterised by the fact that they have a survive a large number of recycling cycles without any noticeable loss of their colouristic properties. All colourants used have high temperature stability and migration resistance.
rPET filler protection on a complete PCR basis
Through the circular economy requirements for the additives used are also growing. Required are High-quality, thermostable solutions, which - once incorporated into the material - can withstand several recycling cycles. The new standard product LifoCycleStab 5/132 rPET with pure rPET carrier protects the contents of rPET bottles with the help of its selected additive combination without significantly affecting the colour.
