Engel is expanding its linear robot series at K 2022 with the new viper 4. The use of low-voltage drive technology significantly increases energy efficiency. The currently smallest viper model is therefore a further building block towards climate neutrality in plastics processing.
Now available in eight sizes - for payload capacities between three and 120 kilograms - the linear robots from Angels optimally to the respective automation task. The new viper 4 will primarily be used for the pick-and-place of small injection moulded parts. It is designed for manipulation weights of three kilograms after the swivel axis and for use on injection moulding machines with a clamping force of up to 2200 kN. For simple component removal and depositing, the viper 4 achieves a dry cycle time of 5.5 seconds and a removal time of less than one second.
Energy-saving switch for vacuum
The special features of the new viper 4 are its extremely low energy consumption. With a standard cycle of six seconds with fully extended strokes and maximum possible dynamics, the energy consumption is 200 Wh. This the small robot consumes just as much energy as a conventional CAD desktop workstation. The viper 4 has 48 V drive technology for this purpose and can be supplied with 230 V AC single-phase voltage.
For the first time All vacuum circuits are equipped with an energy-saving function as standard. The vacuum is controlled as required by means of sequence programming. Depending on the application, this reduces the energy required for the vacuum circuits by up to 80 per cent.
Other advantages include reduced contamination of the air filters and significantly quieter operation of the robots. Engel is setting a new trend in linear robots. In future, all Engel viper models will be equipped with energy-saving vacuum technology as standard.
Compact integration
With its compact design, the viper 4 scores particularly well in combination with tie-bar-less injection moulding machines. For horizontal removal on Engel victory or Engel e-motion TL injection moulding machines, for example, the viper 4 is available in a version with a shortened Y-stroke. It then sits significantly lower in the injection moulding machine and Can absorb more than 30 per cent additional weight. At the same time, it achieves even shorter dry cycle times and longer service lives. Horizontal unloading ensures very low crane runway bottom edges and This enables efficient automation even in confined spaces.
Like the larger models, the new viper 4 is equipped with the intelligent iQ motion control assistance system and can be fully integrated into the CC300 control system of Engel injection moulding machines. A stand-alone version is also available.
