The start-up Sause from Munich has big plans: They want to create a sustainable alternative to liquid soap that dispenses with plastic in both the product and the packaging. The sachets for the liquid soap in powder form are supplied by paper manufacturer Sappi.
In the start-up show "Höhle der Löwen", three investors were interested in the Munich start-up's liquid soap for self-mixing. Managing Directors Moritz Simsch and Sebastian Jung designed the Handling the environmentally friendly "Soap shower" from Sause is very simpleWater, powder, shake - done. Compared to existing drugstore soap in plastic dispensers, 96 per cent of the weight and CO2-emissions during transport. The company controls this primarily through the Production in our own factory. From development to final production, the entire production process takes place in the Palatinate Forest in Germany.
Sause products also score highly when it comes to packaging. In order to Resource-saving alternative to conventional disposable packaging the start-up turned to the Arwed Löseke.
"The many years of The company's expertise in paper processing and printing and its broad expertise in sustainable packaging solutions has helped us make decisive progress. Consumers can be sure of the product quality and sustainability of the packaging."
Moritz Simsch, Sause Co-Founder and CEO

After discussing the customer's specific requirements and carrying out a series of test runs with different paper qualities and basis weights, Arwed Löseke was able to recommend the most suitable material for packaging soap powder. The paper-based packaging solution should offer a high-performance moisture, grease and flavour barrier function as well as have optimum heat-sealing properties.
The choice fell on the functional papers of the Sappi Guard product family, which were specially developed for the flexible packaging market. Sappi AvantGuard Nature S in a grammage of 75 g/m² was characterised not only by its Mixture of stability and mouldability but also has a high sealability.
"About 80 per cent of the materials used in the high-barrier paper come from renewable sources. The paper-based packaging solution eliminates the need for additional special coatings or laminations and the materials can simply be recycled in the waste paper stream."

The approx. 6.5 x 10 centimetre sachets from Sappi protect the soap powder safely from moisture, loss of flavour and other environmental influences. They are easy to handle and can be torn open in a controlled manner.

Four different designs have been developed to reflect the different scents of the soap shower.
"Initially, we had doubts as to whether the flexo print images could be realised on the Sappi AvantGuard paper. But the Results demonstrate the very good printability of the paper - and of course always with the idea of sustainability in mind."
