Mayr-Melnhof completes acquisition of Kotkamills

Mayr-Melnhof has now completed the agreed acquisition of Kotkamills following approval by the competition authorities, thereby strengthening its position in the virgin fibre cartonboard market.

Mayr-Melnhof has now completed the agreed acquisition of Kotkamills following approval by the competition authorities, thereby strengthening its position in the virgin fibre cartonboard market.

The Mayr-Melnhof Group (MM) finalised the acquisition of the company agreed in December 2020. Kotkamills, Finland, following the approval of all relevant competition authorities. The acquisition strengthens the company's position in the virgin fibre cartonboard market with an attractive range of Barrier cardboard solutions that replace PE-coated cardboard can.

Mayr-Melnhof enters the market for paper cups

Mayr-Melnhof is also entering the growing market for cartonboard for paper cups (cupstock). The acquisition complements its established market position in the recycled cartonboard sector. In addition, the company is diversifying its product range with Saturating Kraft Paper/Impregnating Paper, in which Kotkamills is one of the world's leading producers.

MM Kotkamills operates the most modern virgin fibre cartonboard machine in Europe (built in 2016) as well as a machine for Saturating Kraft Paper/impregnating paper with a capacity of 170,000 tonnes and a sawmill. The mill employs around 500 people and generated sales of around EUR 380 million in 2020.
