This year, the focus of the „Better with Less - Design Challenge“ is on packaging solutions that are easy to recycle, use resources more efficiently and generate no waste. The competition was launched on 1 June and will run until 1 December 2022. In a newly released video, the nine renowned jury members explain the circular economy and the role that packaging designers have to play in it.

According to jury member Andrew Gibbs, founder and editor-in-chief of The Dieline, the packaging industry has reached a turning point where it is becoming clear that the circular economy is becoming increasingly prevalent. It has been established that 83 per cent of younger consumers are prepared to spend and pay more for sustainable brands. Fellow jury member Jennifer Patrick, Global Director of Packaging and Branding at Patagonia, sees one of the biggest challenges in the development of new packaging concepts in minimising material consumption.
