MHS automates international sorting centre

System integrator Material Handling Systems (MHS) is automating the new international sorting centre of General Logistics Systems in Italy. This will enable a throughput of up to 22,500 consignments per hour in future.

The system integrator Material Handling Systems (MHS) is automating the new international sorting centre of General Logistics Systems B.V. (GLS) in Sordio, Italy. This will enable a throughput of up to 22,500 consignments per hour in future.

Installed for the parcel and express service provider MHS a modern system consisting of three main sorting systems. Here Two HC loop cross-belt sorters the processing of normal and small packages, while a Automated linear system irregular consignments are sorted regardless of their shape, size or surface characteristics.

Overall, the combined solution therefore achieves a throughput of up to 22,500 consignments per hour. Material Handling Systems will provide GLS with full support throughout the entire project, from system planning, manufacture, installation and commissioning in the summer through to customer service.

The new international GLS hub is strategically located close to Milan and is intended to offer companies provide efficient services in the area of cross-border trade in goods. In addition to the new sorting centre, additional offices and outbuildings as well as a green area of over 4,000 square metres are being built on an area of over 12,000 square metres.
