The packaging company Mondi is expanding its production capacities for flexible animal feed packaging. The company plans to invest almost 65 million euros in three plants in Europe, two of which are in Germany. This is the company's response to increased demand for pet food across Europe as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The project is part of Mondis The company has already announced a one billion euro expansion programme to accelerate growth in the area of sustainable packaging. The company thus plans to further strengthen its position in the pet food packaging market.

Helping customers switch to monomaterials

Work has already begun at Mondi Korneuburg (Austria) and includes Investments in new machinery and equipment as well as an expanded production area. According to the company, these changes will lead to an increase in capacity and consolidate the site's position as market leader for prefabricated retort stand-up pouches for moist pet food.

The Group is also investing in new machinery at the Mondi Halle and Mondi Steinfeld plants in Germany to increase the production capacity of sustainable pre-made pouch solutions for pet food and household and personal care. This should enable future growth and help customers switch from multi-layer, non-recyclable packaging to more sustainable alternatives such as recyclable mono-material stand-up pouches and pre-made paper-based pouches.
