The Mondi plant in Korneuburg, Austria, is increasing its production to supply the packaging for a new coronavirus test kit available on the market.

For the customised packaging of the test cartridges, Mondi provides a Three-layer high-barrier laminate to provide optimum protection for the test kits. The white, unprinted, multi-layer stand-up pouches consist of a PET/Alu/PE structure (polyester/aluminium/polyethylene)to ensure the necessary protection from light and moisture so that the test kits are not affected before use.

The system was developed by Qiagen for use in hospitals, clinics and laboratories and consists of a compact, modular table-top deviceinto which the Multi-chamber cartridges with test samples for analysis be used. The tests should be able to detect SARS-CoV-2 within one hour.

Flexibility in production is key to supporting the essential packaging needs of the medical industry. "With timely testing playing an important role in containing the pandemic, we are ready to support the medical community in any way we can. At Mondi Korneuburg we have adjusted our production planningto support Qiagen with the increasing demand," explains Eveline WagnerManaging Director of Mondi Korneuburg.
