Needle-Trap, the label with integrated needle protection from Schreiner MediPharm, has now been enhanced with a new feature: a special safety seal reliably indicates the initial opening of the prefilled syringe and helps to protect its integrity until the final application.
You can see the Innovative combination of needle and product protection for the first time from 1 to 2 February 2023 at Pharmapack in Paris.
A secure supply chain and the integrity of pharmaceutical packaging are important aspects for pharmaceutical manufacturers. Regulations such as the EU Falsified Medicines Directive already contribute to this, but only affect secondary packaging. Primary containers such as prefilled syringes, on the other hand, require more specialised solutions for tampering and first-opening detection. The needle protection label Needle trap poses particular challenges for a first-opening indication due to its integrated plastic catcher. Both problem-free processing in pharmaceutical production and ease of use for the end user must be taken into account.
The experts at Schreiner MediPharm have further developed Needle-Trap and supplemented with a new type of closure seal integrated into the needle protection label, the tab of which ends on the syringe cap. Before injection, the needle protection catcher is first folded to the side as usual. When the cap is removed, the seal integrated into the label is automatically triggered by a perforation and irreversibly indicates the initial opening. Special security punchings prevent the seal from being removed unnoticed. In addition, overt authentication features such as a guilloche or covert security features can be added for authentication purposes.
Thanks to the new Needle-Trap feature, pharmaceutical manufacturers have a multifunctional and cost-effective solution that combines the protection of medical personnel from needlestick injuries with a first-opening indication to ensure the integrity of the pre-filled syringe at unit level. This increases product and patient safety. In addition, the new Needle-Trap variant can be easily integrated into existing manufacturing processes in pharmaceutical production.
