In November 2019, Noa Juniper No 1, the first non-alcoholic alternative to gin that tastes like gin, was launched on the market. The Berlin-based food tech start-up Noa Drinks is completely rethinking the way non-alcoholic alternatives to spirits are produced and recreating the smell and flavour of gin in a natural way.
The innovative Design of the bottle label was created as part of a Cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences Europe (UE). Under the direction of Volker Pook, Professor of Communication Design at UE, the students of the Communication Design programme created various possible designs for the start-up Noa Drinks.
„At the beginning, we told the students who we are and what is important to us. What exactly characterises our product and how we differ from others. In the end, 17 designs were presented to us by students. Overall, we were able to see very creative and sophisticated designs that had an amazing depth and coherence in the story. In the end, of course, we had to choose one: We chose the design by Maximilian Fischer, which is now also the official bottle label,“ explains Stella-Oriana Strüfing, CEO and co-founder of Noa Drinks GmbH.
The design should always quite restrained, clear and reduced be. The product should take centre stage and not distract from the essential, the taste. The name Noa Drinks is derived from No Alcohol off. Even though the product currently still contains residual alcohol, it reflects the direction in which the start-up wants to develop. The crossed-out O stands for Zero. Noa is also the feminine form of Noah and stands for the moving one. It therefore also reflects the fact that Noa Drinks is setting something in motion with its alcohol-free alternative. A new movement towards alcohol-free.
