Flexible support for the workforce

At this year's automatica, Omron is presenting its „Flexible Production Line“, a network of various production cells in which the Omron i-Automation concept is implemented with in-house components.

The demonstrations at the stand show, among other things, the 3D bin picking using a cobot and FH 3D vision system as well as the use of stationary Scara robots. The latter are now available in a food-grade version so that they can be used for packaging in the F&B industry (pictured is the Scara robot i4H - NSF-H1 Food Grade). In another cell, sensor-based inspection for quality control is presented.

Omron mobile robots are used for transport between the individual production cells on the demo course. This technology can be very easily integrated into existing production areas. For example, it can be used to support employees during palletising: A mobile manipulator (MoMa) loads the pallet automatically. Once it has been loaded, it is picked up by the mobile robot and a new one is fed in. As soon as tasks have been completed at one location, the MoMa can be automatically moved to the next location.

Omron's i-Automation concept can thus help to address typical problems faced by manufacturing companies. This relates to fluctuations in demand that shift the need for labour within the company. In addition, the flexible use of MoMas and cobots, for example, can offset the consequences of the increasing shortage of labour and skilled workers.
