The trade fair organisers are expecting over 1,100 exhibitors at Fachpack 2022 in Nuremberg from 27 to 29 September. Powtech, the leading international trade fair for powder, granulate and bulk solids technologies, will be held at the same time this year at the Exhibition Centre.

The main theme of the Specialist pack this year is “Transition In Packaging“. It describes the changes currently taking place in the industry, which are primarily through greater sustainability, growing e-commerce and increasing digitalisation is characterised by. The main theme is reflected in the trade fair section, but also in the supporting programme.

„‘Transition In Packaging‘ is a very good reflection of the current situation in the packaging industry worldwide. Digitalisation is penetrating all areas from development and design to production and logistics. However, the trend towards greater sustainability is certainly the strongest at the moment. Packaging is already making a major contribution here, especially in terms of product protection, but there is still a lot to do at the end of life. Europe, and the D-A-CH region in particular, can serve as a role model here with existing solutions for collection, utilisation and recycling. However, we are also currently facing another major challenge: how to deal with the energy and raw materials/logistics crisis triggered or exacerbated by the war in Ukraine. I don't have a patent solution for this, but I am sure that we will have good discussions on this at Fachpack!‚

With the main theme “Transition In Packaging“, Fachpack aims to raise awareness and clarify what is happening in the industry, provide orientation and promote dialogue in a time characterised by strong currents and environmental influences.

„We have launched a storytelling campaign to arouse curiosity even before the trade fair. Under the hashtag #TransitionInPackaging we will regularly publish stories from people who are actively shaping change in the packaging industry until Fachpack. Our exhibitors are also invited to take part with their stories. The storytellers can then be met in person at the trade fair, the products and solutions can be viewed and the topics discussed.“

News from the forums

The Specialist pack sees itself as a source of inspiration and as such is once again organising an extensive programme of presentations with the Packbox (Hall 9) and Techbox (Hall 3C) forums, which are extremely popular with visitors. The special feature: Important partners from the packaging industry are organising the programme and invite interested parties not only to listen, but also to join in the discussion. Current industry topics such as the shortage of skilled labour, supply chain bottlenecks/supply chain management, raw material prices and much more will be addressed. Both forums are organised according to the topics of the day.

In the Innovation Box in Hall 5, registered exhibitors can present their Innovations and product highlights present to trade visitors on site in 30-minute presentations.

German Packaging Award: „And the winner is ...“

At Fachpack 2022, the stage will once again be set for the winners the most renowned European showcase for all aspects of packaging, the German Packaging Award. The prize is organised by the German Packaging Institute (dvi) and will be awarded in ten categories on the first day of the trade fair in the Forum Packbox from 4 pm. As a premium partner, Fachpack will present the special award for young talent. Winners of the Packaging Award are also nominated for the WorldStar of the World Packaging Organisation (WPO).

„The current situation due to a lack of raw materials, supply chain problems and a shortage of skilled labour is in some cases dramatic for the entire packaging industry and also for our member companies and is leading to a severe restriction of the scope for innovation. This makes the continued high quality of the exhibits for the International German Packaging Award all the more impressive. Sustainable packaging solutions remain in vogue, as the 30 per cent share of submissions clearly shows. Unfortunately, the great efforts of the packaging industry are neither recognised nor sufficiently appreciated by the public. Our rising consumption immediately eats up any sustainability efforts, as we found out in a recently published study. Blaming packaging for our consumption habits is the wrong approach. Packaging makes a significant contribution to reducing our climate footprint. This makes Fachpack's contribution to providing an important stage for the industry's innovations all the more important.“

Inspiration: Special packaging design show

Anyone interested in packaging design can the special show Transition In Packaging By Design in Hall 7 is definitely not to be missed. Here you can see what contribution design can make to current packaging requirements. Designers are focussing on creative as well as technical and communicative innovation. Under the themes of “Address”, “Amaze” and “Advance“, the special show - a co-operation between bayern design and NürnbergMesse - will present Selected examples of packaging design in which designers use packaging strategically: As a communication medium, as a means of interaction and as a field of application for sustainable material development. The innovations presented will inspire and show new paths for the packaging industry. Similar to the special show categories „Address“, „Amaze“ and „Advance“, there will be presentations by renowned designers in the Packbox.

Fresh, unconventional ideas and products to solve packaging issues are more in demand than ever. Visitors will find these for start-ups in the packaging industry in Hall 5, at the subsidised BMWi joint stand for young, innovative companies and in the international start-up area. There, newcomers will show interested packaging specialists their innovative products and processes and discuss them. They also have the opportunity to present themselves and their products daily in the Innovation Box in short, snappy pitch formats.

This year, Powtech, the leading international trade fair for powder, granulate and bulk solids technologies, will take place at the Exhibition Centre at the same time as Fachpack. This creates additional synergies in processing and packaging.

„Fachpack benefits from Powtech, which runs in parallel. Both trade fairs appeal to users from the food and feed, chemical, pharmaceutical, plastics processing and mechanical engineering sectors and bring together the entire value chain from process to technology to packaging in three days. Of course, visitors can attend both trade fairs with one ticket.“
