"Packaging manufacturers have overcome the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, not least because the protective function of packaging has given consumers the feeling that their food is well protected from environmental influences. However, the packaging industry is currently facing completely different challenges. For all packaging industries, the supply of affordable energy is an important prerequisite for being able to continue to produce competitively in Germany. In the case of energy-intensive industries, this is even becoming an existential issue. In addition, there are difficulties with logistics and disruptions in the supply chains caused by the war in Ukraine."

Packaging manufacturers are therefore looking to the future with mixed feelings despite the good annual results for 2021. "Packaging is an everyday commodity that is also needed in times of crisis. But the question is, how we will produce in the future and not lose sight of the major goals in terms of climate neutrality", says Overath.
