
UPM Speciality Papers is responding to the pet food market's growing demand for environmentally friendly packaging solutions by offering paper-based alternatives to plastics and packaging containing PFAS chemicals.
PFAS chemicals, also known as eternity chemicals, are often used to achieve fat resistance - an important requirement for animal feed packaging. However, PFAS chemicals are harmful to health and are therefore gradually being withdrawn from circulation. For example, it is expected that the forthcoming EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) will prohibit packaging products containing PFAS chemicals from being placed on the market.
