Dr Pfleger Arzneimittel wanted to offer a well-known product in new and recyclable packaging. The company turned to Etimex Primary Packaging to develop the blister packaging.

The long-established Bamberg-based company Dr Pfleger Arzneimittel has been working on the production, development and distribution of medicinal products for many decades and now employs over 400 people. The company's product range is extensive. With over 60 medicines and medical products in the fields of urology, dermatology, gynaecology and self-medication for pain, hoarseness and hair health, Dr Pfleger has always focused on the well-being of people. Not only the company's own medicines themselves, but also associated topics such as the Packaging solutions are an important contribution to future-orientated and sustainable action. This is precisely why the company approached us in March 2021 for a collaboration Etimex. In addition to the aluminium can, the well-known product was also to be offered in the future in the form of a sample in a recyclable packaging variant. The aim was to achieve sustainability for the sample as well through a fully recyclable single-material solution such as the Purelay monoblister.

The path to the finished packaging solution began with various test runs with the new material. Dr Pfleger received several small rolls of the Mono PP to be used and was therefore able to carry out test runs on its own machines. To ensure that the tests ran as efficiently and effectively as possible, Etimex developers were also on site - and were able to provide the customer directly with tips and advice on how to convert the machines smoothly.

Following successful testing, a first monoblister was produced for the customer's product in order to test the new solution for haptics and push-through properties. Especially with new solutions in the The sampling times in the pharmaceutical industry are usually long, as a large number of specifications have to be met precisely when making changes to the product.

After around two years, the Purelay monoblister was successfully validated as new packaging. The product sample is already being handed out and offers consumers the opportunity to test the product using individually removable pastilles. „This sustainable solution gives us the opportunity to have ipalat throat lozenges tested by our future customers. In this way, they can see our product for themselves before they buy it,“ says Corinna Spies, Brand Manager at Dr Pfleger Arzneimittel.
