Together with the Munich-based alpine sports outfitter Schuster, ratioform has tested sustainable packaging for online retail. The climate-neutral Speedbox is made from grass paper. The stability and efficiency of the packaging was tested with 1,000 boxes in the sports outfitter's online shop.
After the test run, 96.8 per cent of customers rated the grass paper packaging positively. It is efficient and sustainable with an automatic base and a high proportion of a rapidly renewable resource. Schuster had already been honoured by ratioform and the Logistics team was able to increase its packaging efficiency by 60 per cent. Together, the companies are now moving towards an even more environmentally friendly alternative.
A sustainable alternative
„With its automatic base and self-adhesive strips, the grass paper Speedbox is identical in design to the conventional Speedbox and therefore fits seamlessly into our processes. However, I was initially sceptical as to whether the material would meet our requirements in terms of efficiency and stability.“
Harry Hahn, Head of Logistics at the Munich-based alpine sports outfitter Sporthaus Schuster

After all, packaging doesn't just have to survive transport to the customer: 30 to 40 per cent of orders are returned, for which customers usually reuse the Speedbox. The grass paper boxes come from ratioform's climate-neutral brand terra.
„With every order in grass paper, the Schuster logistics team has included a flyer that leads customers to the survey via QR code: How much did you like the delivery in grass paper? They can answer this with just a few clicks using an emoji. Critical feedback is also helpful. Initial feedback that the grass paper absorbs too much water when it rains is something we use with our partners from the paper industry to optimise the material composition.”
Rolf Träger, Area Sales Manager at ratioform
The importance of sustainability for transport packaging is constantly growing and many customers took the opportunity to participate in the survey. The result: with 96.8 per cent, the large Majority of customers voting in favour of climate-neutral packaging.
