The Print City Alliance is satisfied with its participation in the 9th UV Days at IST Metz. It was particularly involved in the seminars on the food safety of high-quality finishes. IST Metz presented the „SIMPL Dining Box“ catering solution as an example.

The Print City Alliance is satisfied with its participation in the 9th UV Days organised by IST Metz. The alliance of printing and packaging companies was particularly involved in the seminars on the food safety of high-quality finishes.

„Tradition meets modernity“ was the motto of the event in mid-May 2019 on the grounds of IST Metz in Nürtingen. 55 exhibitors and 1,300 visitors from 46 countries were welcomed. From the ranks of the Print City Alliance In addition to the organiser IST Metz, the manufacturer of die-cutting and folding carton gluing systems Kama, the specialist for hot stamping and coating technology Leonhard Kurz, Metsä Board  and Weilburger Graphics as a manufacturer of finishing lacquers, adhesives and water-based flexo colours.

Print City Alliance promotes UV technology

During the seminars, the members of the Print City Alliance explained the environmental aspects of substrates, varnishes, hot stamping and coatings for UV applications. They emphasised that the selection of the right materials and the appropriate application and handling are the key to success. Print City is committed to the growing importance of Food safety by ever stricter laws. At the same time, the use of the widely used UV technology still viewed critically.

Food box made from renewable raw materials

The explanations were underpinned by numerous practical examples. Among other things, IST Metz presented its new „SIMPL Dining Foodbox“. It is produced from renewable raw materials and is recyclable. The special thing about the product: IST Metz has developed the food packaging in-house in compliance with the Low migration guidelines professionally produced using UV technology.

Starting with the use of approved inks and varnishes, through drying under UV light, to cleanliness at the Printing machine: According to IST Metz, the Dining Box shows that UV can also be used to produce Food packaging suitable if the legal requirements are clarified in good time.

Fast and uncomplicated catering solution

The SIMPL Dining Box is designed as a quick and uncomplicated Catering solution for various event formats. The box has a lid with Sliding function. This allows you to look inside the box without having to open it completely. In this way, the food remains hygienically packaged until it is consumed.

There are two different versions of the SIMPL Dining food packaging: a lunch box and a buffet box. Both versions were developed on the company's own Sheetfed offset printing press, The food packaging was produced and finished on a Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102-7 LX. The food packaging was UV printed under low migration requirements and the decorative elements were finished with UV varnish, writes IST Metz. The printed product was then cured using LAMPcure technology. In the Print finishing The basic shapes and other elements were then punched.
