Representatives of Progroup AG and Sappi Stockstadt GmbH have signed an agreement to take over the site of the paper and pulp mill in Stockstadt.

The traditional paper location offers the family business Progroup an opportunity, to plan another location for the circular economy. Step by step, a concept is to be developed to produce corrugated base paper sustainably and innovatively with the help of a closed material cycle.

The market town, the district and the Free State of Bavaria supported the negotiations. The settlement was supported by Invest in Bavaria, the state government's settlement agency, accompanied.

The Takeover of the site is planned for April 2024. The dismantling of the old facilities will then be planned and carried out. This step is necessary to create space for the implementation of the future site concept and will be completed in the course of 2025. At the same time, concrete plans and technical reports will be drawn up to serve as the basis for licence applications and upcoming investments.

„The circular economy is a long-term process. From our fresh water requirements, which are more than 80 per cent lower than in the rest of the industry, to our energy concept: our aim is to use resources as sparingly as possible. This means that the planning process takes time. But it also means that we are committed to the Bavarian Lower Main region for the very long term. We look forward to developing joint opportunities for us and for the region at our future location of Stockstadt.“
