Reclay parent company acquires stake in Finnish Plastics Recycling

The Raan Group acquires a stake in Finnish Plastics Recycling Ltd. and intends to recycle other materials in addition to plastic packaging.

Reclay's parent company has acquired a stake in the Finnish recycling system Finnish Plastics Recycling Ltd. Through a subsidiary, the Raan Group holds the largest share in the system with 25.8 per cent and intends to expand the service from plastic packaging to other materials. 

The Raan Group, which also includes Reclay an international service provider in waste disposal and environmental management, has acquired a stake in the Finnish recycling system Finnish Plastic Recycling Ltd (Suomen Uusiomuovi Oy) through its subsidiary Frieda & August Wine Concept GmbH. The subsidiary Reclay's Managing Director Antti Tiilikainen is also the new Chairman of the Management Board. As an authorised Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO), the Finnish company has been responsible for the implementation of legal producer responsibility with regard to the recycling of plastic waste for around 20 years. The Raan Group had already expanded its consulting services to Finland last year through a joint venture investment. With the investment in Finnish Plastics Recycling Ltd. Operator of another operational system in addition to Germany, Austria, Slovakia, France and Canada in accordance with the extended producer responsibility.

As a first strategic development step, Finnish Plastics Recycling Ltd will expand its services to include now open for all other packaging materials in addition to plastic packaging. The corresponding application will be submitted by the end of June 2022. This resolution was passed at the Annual General Meeting on 29 April 2022 in order to comply with an amendment to the Finnish Waste Act.

This ensures greater cost efficiency and increased pressure to innovate, which has always had a positive effect on the market in our international experience to date. In order to fulfil the legal obligations and specified quotas in Finland, measures are also required along the entire value chain.“
