Reclay Systems offers one per cent of the licence volume as a recycling premium

The Cologne-based waste disposal service provider Reclay Systems has announced the first details of the recycling premium. The company is thus complying with the requirements of the Packaging Act. This law requires dual systems to incentivise the ecological structuring of participation fees.

After the Central Agency Packaging Register published the first minimum standard for recyclable packaging in September, the dual systems are now gradually introducing the premium models required by the Packaging Act. Reclay Systems, for example, will be paying a so-called recycling premium from next year onwards.

At the beginning of October, the Cologne-based waste disposal service provider announced that it would promote packaging that has been proven to be easily recyclable and offer the Distributor one per cent of its total licence volume. If the customer does not or only partially utilise the bonus, the remaining amount should be donated, Reclay Systems continues. The aim is to support environmental projects run by non-profit organisations. „In this way, the Recycling premium only advantages,“ concludes the company.

Packaging Act calls for ecological organisation of charges

The basis for the recycling premium is provided by section 21 of the Packaging Actit. It requires each dual system to develop an incentive for the ecological organisation of participation fees. As recently as 1 September 2019, the responsible Central Agency Packaging Register published the „Minimum standard for assessing the recyclability of packaging subject to system participation“.

According to Reclay Systems, the recycling premium will become valid and binding with the contracts for the coming year. This will offer manufacturers and distributors of sales packaging the incentive to be rewarded for the good recyclability of packaging.
