A sustainable promotion campaign in collaboration with Chep begins on dm sales floors. Goods are presented on the Chep Q+ Reusable Display, which is a reusable alternative to disposable cardboard boxes and displays.
„The widespread demand for reusable packaging requires careful consideration in order to find out where this option really has a climate-friendly impact. In the area of logistics, there is still considerable potential that we can utilise. The reusable display is undoubtedly a promising option for this.“
Dagmar Glatz, Head of Product Management, Sustainability, Packaging, dm-drogerie markt GmbH + Co. KG
Using resources with foresight, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting biodiversity and ecosystems are goals that dm are important. Made exclusively from Post-consumer plastic waste - made from upcycled polypropylene with EUCertiPlast certification - the Q+ Reusable Display corresponds precisely to this sustainability strategy and helps to massively reduce the use of disposable materials on the sales floor. According to an independent life cycle analysis (LCA) commissioned by Chep Compared to conventional cardboard displays, the reusable display reduces disposable packaging by an impressive 57 per cent and CO2-emissions by 34 per cent. Calculated for the individual display, this amounts to up to 3.6 kg less cardboard packaging and a reduction of approx. 5.36 kg CO2.
„The Chep Q+ Reusable Display is an important milestone in promoting recyclable solutions at the point of sale. We are delighted to be taking this important first step together with dm to implement sustainability in practice. This makes dm the pioneer in German retail. Every manufacturer and retailer is invited to now opt for a more environmentally friendly alternative for promotions.“
Stephan Horstmann, Director Retail at Chep
The process for manufacturers and retailers is as simple as it is effective: at the end of the promotion, the Q+ Reusable Display shelves are delivered back to the retailer's central warehouse together with the Chep Q+ quarter pallet. Once there, the display bases are collected and transported to the nearest Chep Service Centre, where they are cleaned and inspected before they are reintroduced into the cycle. With this circular process, Chep ensures that the displays are reused, minimising waste and the wastage of resources.
An initial test run of the Q+ Reusable Display took place in summer 2023, during which a standard for safe and effective handling in German retail was established. Products from dm's own brand SauBär were tested in a mixed display as part of a back-to-school promotion. The tests showed that the Q+ Reusable Display is not only environmentally friendly, but also fulfils the Meeting the requirements of the retail trade and presents brands attractively. A further result was that the use of the Q+ Reusable Display Simplifies the work of shop employees compared to cardboard displays; Here, the Q+ Reusable Display was clearly easier to dismantle once the products had been sold. In addition, the high stability of the Chep display reduced transport damage - another important finding from the test.
