Returnable shipping system for pharmaceuticals and electronics

Smart Container Loop GmbH presents a new reusable shipping system with conical containers that are lightweight, stackable and made of recycled PP.

Smart Container Loop GmbH presents a new reusable shipping system with conical containers. The system is adapted to the requirements of parcel logistics in the pharmaceutical and electronics sectors and is characterised by its lightweight and stackable containers, which are also made from recycled polypropylene.

In addition to the existing hinged containers, the company now also offers its customers conical containers with hinged lids in sizes S, M and L. Compared to conventional container systems, the containers offer significant advantages. The new langlebigen boxes are not only among the lightest reusable containers of their kindbut are maximally volume reducible in the empty stack due to their conical shape.

Recycled polypropylene is used for production. The design of the containers allows for efficient cleaning and drying. Equipped with an RFID transponder and a barcode, the bins are also labelled using a seamless ID-based tracking system. This enables a precise overview of the container pool for all participants in the supply chain.

The first Reusable container system with seamless track-and-trace software developed Smart Container Loop for the electronics retailer expert. The specialist retail chain based in Langenhagen near Hanover completely switched its cardboard shipping to the Smart Container Loop reusable system in 2019. Smart Container Loop uses two foldable and therefore space-saving container types, each of which is closed with a lid. In the newly built central warehouse in Langenhagen near Hanover, the containers are now an integral part of the conveyor and picking technology. From there, the electronics retail chain supplies its affiliated retailers throughout Germany and reduces breakage and shrinkage with the Smart Container Loop system. Return logistics are handled by the transport service provider trans-o-flex.

In the pharmaceutical sector, MSD is one of the users of the Smart Container Loop reusable systems. The pharmaceutical manufacturer was one of the pilot customers and provided significant input for the development of the containers for the pharmaceutical segment.

"Over the past three years, we have been able to establish ourselves on the market as a specialist for reusable shipping systems for parcel logistics in the B2B sector and, in addition to expert, have acquired other major customers from the pharmaceutical sector. In doing so, we have proven that Smart Container Loop has the biggest challenge - container shrinkage - under control thanks to seamless tracking via the tracking and deposit system. If containers are left behind, our customer service clarifies each individual case. Thanks to the efficient container and low shrinkage, the system represents a sustainable alternative to increasingly expensive disposable cartons. Our aim is to offer a full service to make reusable shipping just as easy for our customers as cardboard shipping."
