Millions of loaded roll containers are on the road every day, transporting food and other goods to supermarkets. The roll containers are usually wrapped in stretch film to secure them during transport. The Austrian company RS-Systems believes that this is not sustainable and has developed a reusable solution that makes film superfluous.

The patented Roll-Safe system consists of two heavy-duty structural chamber panels made of polypropylene, which are flexibly mounted on the trolley using special tensioning straps. can be produced. „Our target group is the food industry, but also drugstores and organic supermarkets, which still produce large quantities of film because most goods are delivered in wrapped roll containers,“ says RS-Systems-owner Martin Köllner. The Austrian has developed the sustainable Roll-Safe reusable solution.

One of the customers already using the system successfully is the food wholesaler Transgourmet. Following an intensive test phase, the company is now using the environmentally friendly transport security system from RS-Systems GmbH for all of its Austrian sites - and completely eliminates stretch film for load securing. Around 30,000 individual panels for 15,000 containers are now in use.

Before the transported goods are removed from the roller containers, the panels can be fixed to the side of the container and closed again after removal. Handling is simple, as the panel is simply hooked onto the vertical struts of the roll container with two straps. „The advantages of Roll-Safe are One hundred per cent securing of the goods to be transported and the continued stackability of the roll containers“, explains Martin Köllner. Thanks to the welded edges on all sides and the smooth surface, Roll-Safe is easy to clean and is therefore particularly suitable for use in the kitchen. Suitable for use in the food retail trade.

The open sides of the roll container are the problem areas that need to be secured during transport. To protect goods against damage and falling out, wrapping is still the most common protection solution today. „The Use of the film means high material and time expenditure and is no longer justifiable from an ecological point of view,“ says Köllner. „Roll-Safe, on the other hand, eliminates the need to wrap roll containers with stretch film. Retail companies can reduce their costs and avoid waste with our reusable system."

Two variants

Tailored to the needs of its customers, RS-Systems has Two variants on offer. The „Roll-Safe fixed“ variant is supplied with a hinge and is then an integral part of the roll container. The flexible variant is created using Four hooks hooked onto the vertical struts of the roller container. This allows the system to be removed quickly and reattached just as quickly. On request, the plates can also be labelled with a QR code. This allows retail companies to check where and how many plates are in circulation at any time. „This makes returns management easier,“ says Köllner.

RS-Systems presented a further developed solution at this year's LogiMAT. The reusable structural chamber panels are now available with an enlarged opening on the sides. This makes it even easier to attach the hinge that connects Roll-Safe to the roll container.

Packaging users | Repackaging at the turn of the month

In his new column, our „packaging user“ takes a look at a business in which packaging and marketing have long since become more important than the actual content: the jersey. What was once a symbol of loyalty and identity is now degenerating into a seasonal disposable product - from carnival jerseys and limited special editions to „reinventions“ every year. A trenchant look at football, consumption and the question of how much sustainability there really is in polyester.
