Sappi: New portfolio of sustainable label papers

Speciality paper manufacturer Sappi will be presenting its extensive range of face stock papers, silicone base papers and wet glue label papers at Labelexpo Europe.

Sappi's Glassine and CCK papers offer good siliconisation properties as well as simple and efficient processing. They are used as a carrier material for various self-adhesive applications, such as for self-adhesive labels, visual communication, adhesive tapes and self-adhesive office supplies.

Just in time for Labelexpo, Sappi is presenting two new CCK papers that expand the Sol product family. With Sol BCK, Sappi is presenting a backing paper for graphic, industrial and adhesive tape applications. Compared to the commonly used PCK-based (Polyethylene Coated Kraft) papers, the backing paper promises a significantly improved CO2-balance due to the elimination of the usual plastic coating, The result is greater recyclability due to the saving of plastic material and considerable cost savings.

The new Parade Label SG face stock paper with good printing and finishing properties will also be on show. As One-side coated, semi-glossy paper for self-adhesive labels it scores with its excellent printability, opacity and rigidity as well as its good further processing options. It is therefore suitable as a self-adhesive label for primary products, general packaging, transport packaging, disposable bottles and containers.

Sappi will also be showcasing its Parade Label Pro non-wet-strength wet-glue label paper. The glossy label paper, which is double-coated on one side, is characterised by a particularly smooth surface and a high degree of whiteness and achieves outstanding printing and finishing results. This paper was developed for high-quality labelling in the food, beverage and consumer goods industries and achieves an unmistakable visual impact and brand differentiation at the point of sale. Parade Label Pro is produced at Sappi's Alfeld plant in Germany and Gratkorn plant in Austria in rolls and sheets with grammages of 80, 90, 100, 110 and 120 g/m².

Investment in wet-strength wet-glue label papers at Gratkorn

At the end of last year, Sappi announced a long-term investment at the production site in Gratkorn, Austria, to strengthen the wet glue label paper division. The project has now been implemented and The first quantities of the new wet-strength wet-glue label paper qualities have been produced. In order to optimally meet the requirements of the industry, the new label paper, which will be sold under the brand name „Parade Label WS“, will be delivered to selected customers for long-term practical testing from October 2023.

Sappi has established reliable production and seamless supply chains to ensure 100 per cent availability and fast delivery of its label papers. Whereas previously label papers in Europe only in Alfeld, Germany, in Carmignano, Italy, and in the USA at the Somerset site Sappi's plant in Gratkorn, Austria, is now an ideal addition to the range.
