Flexible packaging is on the rise. But this poses new challenges for intralogistics. The Glatten-based company J. Schmalz is now offering special suction pads that can be seen in action at the upcoming Fachpack.

Compared to cartons, the bag saves the packer material and the transport service provider volume in his vehicle. J. Schmalz GmbH has developed a new bellows suction pad so that unstable polybags or paper bags can be gripped dynamically and reliably in logistics centres. The 4.5-fold-high FSGC can adapt well to different workpiece contours. Visitors to Fachpack 2022 will also be able to see another newly developed suction gripper on the Lard-stand on a robot in action. The combination of a soft sealing lip and stable bellows allows the PSPF gripper to securely grip even thin bags filled with liquid. The large shaft diameters of the suction pads allow a high volume flow and thus maximise the holding forces. This is especially important for particularly dynamic processes.

Right next to the fixed robot cell, the ZLW lightweight layer gripper demonstrates how it lifts layers of cans, jars or cardboard boxes weighing up to 20 kilograms at a time. Depending on the configuration, it weighs between 4 and 14 kilograms and is therefore suitable for integration into lightweight robots. As smaller robots require less power, the ZLW is a solution for sustainable automation. The interaction between camera technology, software and bin-picking gripper plays an important role. Schmalz will be demonstrating how to do this properly with a cobot application at the centre of its trade fair stand.

Ergonomics without limits

With its JumboFlex Picker or the new KBG crane gantry, Schmalz can make manual handling processes easier on the back even when a crane cannot actually be installed. The new crane gantry allows the installation of an aluminium crane system and thus the use of an ergonomic lifting solution wherever, for example, the statics rule out direct ceiling installation.

The new crane gantry from Schmalz is designed as a modular system that allows quick assembly and can be customised to meet individual customer requirements. The JumboFlex Picker takes a different approach: users can simply move the tube lifter to wherever they need it using their industrial truck. In this way, they simply take the ergonomics with them and can distribute goods to different storage locations or further processing sites.
