Dienst, a company based in Hofheim am Taunus, has developed a fully automated packaging solution for e-commerce in the form of PAL - Packaging for Automated Logistics.
E-commerce sales have been growing steadily for years, and the increasing individuality of orders is putting pressure on the logistics sector - agile solutions are needed instead of standardised production and packaging lines. PAL - Packaging for Automated Logistics, is what Service the new system, which will be delivered to a customer in the logistics sector in spring 2022 and will start right there.
The extensive automation of the PAL thus enables the customer to differently filled packages are mixed and run through the packaging line. Different product combinations and different language versions for brochures and return labels - every parcel is unique. There are always checkpoints in between where incorrectly sorted parcels can be ejected.
This flexibility enables a Productivity of up to 72 parcels per minute and saves additional personnel costs. Dienst delivers with the PAL an all-round system: from the carton erector to the ready-to-ship parcel, all steps are integrated into the packaging line, which is over 40 metres long.
Check-in via QR code
The individual contents of each order, including brochures and return labels, are inserted into the packaging one after the other. At the beginning, individual components are still inserted manually on the conveyor belt.
„We offer our customers fully automated product safety using QR codes.“
Wolfgang Lapke, project manager at Dienst
The PAL is the first system of its kind on the market. The solution lies in the QR code that is printed on each pack. This tells the machine which product has been inserted, which is constantly compared with the order in the higher-level system. If there are any errors, the package is ejected directly.
At its plant in Hofheim am Taunus, Dienst Verpackungstechnik GmbH designs, develops and realises efficient, customised packaging solutions for manufacturers in the consumer sectors Food, baby food, cosmetics, hygiene, electronics and many more.
