From next year, all of SIG's raw cartons for packaging will be FSC-certified. The company claims to be the first in its industry to take this step.

For the packaging manufacturer, it is a further milestone on the so-called „Way Beyond Good“. Its aim is to go even further in supporting sustainable forests and the associated climate benefits and, in partnerships, to design a packaging system for food and beverages that is ‚net positive‘ - in other words, does more for society and the environment than it takes up.

SIG now claims to be the first company in the industry to announce that it is sourcing paperboard at 100% to FSC standards and from FSC-certified forests. SIG's purchasing of FSC certified paperboard has been high for many years at over 80% - and has now reached the 100% mark through continued close co-operation with suppliers.

FSC certification, which is supported by NGOs such as WWF, helps forests and the communities that depend on them. To achieve certification, forestry companies must meet strict standards for responsible forest management that support biodiversity, prevent deforestation and forest degradation, and respect the rights of local communities and indigenous peoples.
