Solutions in line with the EU packaging regulation

To help companies prepare for the EU packaging regulation, Ranpak will be presenting end-of-line packaging solutions at LogiMAT.

To help companies prepare for the upcoming EU packaging regulation, Ranpak will be showcasing end-of-line packaging solutions at LogiMAT. The automated solutions are designed to maximise packaging efficiency, be environmentally friendly and paper-based.

Ranpak will present new automated End-Of-Line (EOL) packaging solutions at LogiMAT 2023. These solutions have been created with the aim of Maximise packaging efficiency. The aim is also to enable customers to achieve their internal targets for compliance with the forthcoming EU packaging regulation. This also includes the Requirement to limit the empty volume of shipping packaging to a maximum of 40 per cent.

The packaging solutions from Ranpak are environmentally friendly and paper-based. They protect the packaged contents, do not use plastics and are designed in such a way that the Products packaged in the most space-saving way possible, avoiding cavities as far as possible can be realised. The automated configurations already installed worldwide enable higher productivity with less labour and waste, while at the same time making packaging processes more sustainable.

The EU has drawn up a new packaging regulation that is due to come into force in 2030. Ranpak's solutions are designed to help customers comply with this new packaging regulation. On display will be the automatic in-line packaging machine Cut'it! EVO. It reduces empty spaces in parcels before dispatch and thus lowers shipping costs. You Automatically reduces cartons to the highest filling point and attaches a secure lid with adhesive.

The ergonomic Flap'it! system, which will be presented to the public for the first time at the trade fair, is an efficient solution for automatic packaging of small products. E-commerce and logistics benefit from excellent product protection when shipping books, computer games, DVDs, spare parts and small electronic devices. The cardboard boxes produced by Flap'it! can be used to protect products thanks to the inner flaps and padded corners prevent transport damage as far as possible and reduce the number of returns become.

The company will also present its new Presenting an AI-based, computer-aided optical inspection system, which carries out a quality assessment at the entrance to the packaging line to improve the overall efficiency and reliability of the automated system.

EVO and two Form'it carton erectors and are very satisfied with their performance and reliability. We have even been able to integrate Ranpak's packaging lines into third-party solutions. From automatic packing to the output of the high-quality sealed, height-reduced and ready-to-ship cartons, the high degree of automation means that hardly any operator intervention is required. Ranpak has also worked closely with us to address the space constraints associated with some specific modifications. With these two systems, we can ship 12,000 to 14,000 cartons in a 10-hour working day at our plant. That's a truly amazing throughput. And the sustainability of these solutions also plays a major role for us and our customers.“

In addition to automation solutions, Ranpak will also be exhibiting its environmentally friendly paper-based protective packaging for use in folding cartons at LogiMAT. These include the recently launched RecyCold climaliner in combination with the highly sustainable RecyCold cool packs, which offer numerous advantages for many cold chain applications.
