
Stora Enso is expanding its packaging range with a new product portfolio for bio-based foams made of wood. The products are fully recyclable and can be used for protective and thermal packaging. Lightweight wood foams are the answer to the demand for climate-friendly, renewable and recyclable cushioning materials in inner packaging - especially for the boom in e-commerce and cold chain logistics.
Stora Enso's range consists of Fibrease™ by Stora Enso and Papira® by Stora Enso. Both Foams have versatile technical and ecological properties, and customers can select a suitable foam based on their specific packaging requirements. The foams can be used for Protection of sensitive goods and are Ideal for thermal packaging of temperature-sensitive products. Fibrease is now commercially available, while the Pilot plant for the production of Papira commenced operations at the Fors site in Sweden after the investment was announced in August 2020.

Stora Enso with an alternative to packaging of fossil origin
Fossil-based packaging contributes significantly to environmental pollution, as they account for 40 % of global plastic use. Materials of fossil origin such as plastic wrapping or polystyrene foams are widely used today as padding and insulating materials in packaging. With Fibrease and Papira Stora Enso now Renewable and climate-friendly alternatives to fossil-based packaging protection in. The bio-based foams are made from certified wood and can be recycled in paper recycling streams.

Stora Enso's new pilot plant is intended to make Papira Evaluate and validate packaging foam in customer test runs. Stora Ensos The Fors site in Sweden, where the pilot plant for Papira is located, produces lightweight cardboard grades for consumer packaging.
