
Stora Enso has been honoured with the award for the best circular solution. This is one of three sustainability awards that Tetra Pak presented to its suppliers on 3 December. The award recognises Stora Enso's performance in the circular economy and its significant achievements in recycling beverage cartons. Earlier this year, Stora Enso and Tetra Pak announced their collaboration on a circular economy packaging initiative that will triple the recycling capacity for used beverage cartons (UBC) in Poland, including the country's total UBC volume and overflow from neighbouring countries.
In 2020, Tetra Pak launched its „Join Us in Protecting the Planet“ sustainability initiative for suppliers to Promote progress by its suppliers in the areas of climate, biodiversity and the circular economy. It also emphasises the need for joint action to achieve the Corporate goal of generating net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in our own operations by 2030, underline.
Sustainability award honours promotion of recycling
Against this background Stora Enso honoured for its commitment to the circular economy and on 3 December as part of a virtual ceremony with the Supplier Award for Circularity 2021 honoured. The co-operation with Tetra Pak at the Stora Enso production facility in Ostrołęka (Poland) led to a Complete concept for the recycling of all beverage carton components, including wood fibres and barrier layers. Projects like these are key to achieving sustainability goals and promoting recycling on a large scale.

Combining the same goals
In addition, Stora Enso recently new targets for its key sustainability priorities in the areas of climate change, biodiversity and the circular economy announced. This includes an updated, scientifically based target, the Reduce greenhouse gas emissions in areas 1, 2 and 3 by 50 per cent by 2030, based on a base year of 2019. The company is therefore in line with Tetra Pak, which has also set targets for emissions reductions by 2030 that are in line with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) for scopes 1, 2 and 3, with the aim of reducing emissions along the entire value chain to zero by 2050.
