TenCate has installed a RoRo StretchPack solution at its production site near Paris to replace heat shrink wrapping. RoRo StretchPack from Tentoma is a cold packaging technology that uses a tubular stretch bonnet film for horizontally sealed packaging of large rolls.
TenCate develops and produces geosynthetics that are used in civil engineering, including Nonwovens, geogrids and fabrics. The new RoRo StretchPack packaging line has increased the packaging capacity at the Bezons plant.
„Our packaging capacity has increased and we can now pack a greater variety of roll formats.“

In particular TenCate was able to increase the packaging capacity for the very large rolls. The packaging quality has also improved after the new packaging line from Tentoma was installed. By using a stretch bonnet film instead of a heat shrink film, the packaging is now tight and slim.
In the past, the packaging had a long weld seam along the side of the roll, which could easily tear during transport and handling. This is different now. The tubular stretch bonnet film leaves no sealing seam along the side of the roll, but only uses a short and strong sealant at each end of the roller.
Reduced film and energy consumption
The tight packaging eliminates the excessive use of film for packaging, which TenCate previously had to reduce by shrinking anyway. In addition, stretch film has the following advantages over shrink film higher puncture resistance, so that the film thickness can be reduced, without compromising the packaging quality. In addition to film consumption, the elimination of the heat shrink oven energy consumption is also reduced. Overall, RoRo StretchPack has helped to improve sustainability compared to the heat-shrink packaging line.
Safety has also been improved. On the one hand, the fire hazard in the packaging line has been eliminated by removing the heat shrink oven. On the other hand safety for employees has been increased, as all processes are stopped immediately if someone enters the security area.
The new packaging line was developed by Tentoma developed for packaging rolls of any size. TenCate produces rolls with a width of up to 6200 mm and a diameter of up to 800 mm. Four film sizes are used to cover the product range. Each film rack can hold a ø800 mm film roll, which comprises up to approx. 2.4 km of film with a film thickness of 100 my. The high film capacity reduces the number of film roll changes.
TenCate uses the four-film rack for a combination of different film formats and films with different printing and branding. The fact that the film roll no longer runs through a heat shrink oven means that Uniformity and an attractive appearance of the logo printed on the film guaranteed. In addition to the packaging machine, the entire RoRo StretchPack solution consists of an infeed conveyor with a pusher, an outfeed conveyor with an integrated weighing system, swivelling and tilting conveyors and a plug applicator.
