Plastic tableware and plastic drinking straws in particular have become the subject of discussion. The European Commission is discussing a ban. The British government has already banned drinking straws. Packaging manufacturers are also reacting to this.
According to Tetra Pak, the company plans to launch a Paper straw for Portion packs onto the market. According to the company, the plan is to develop a drinking straw that can be pushed back into the portion packaging after use. This will prevent the straw from ending up as loose waste in nature. Instead, it is disposed of properly with the portion packaging.
The development is being vigorously pursued, „but there are a number of challenges to overcome in producing a paper straw with the required properties,“ says Charles Brand, Executive Vice President, Product Management & Commercial Operations at Tetra Pak.
