Just a few months after commissioning the last folder gluer, Thimm has installed an additional new production line. This expansion at the site in Wörrstadt is intended to meet the increasing demand for packaging for e-commerce. With the machine investment of 4.2 million euros, the packaging manufacturer is aiming for zero-defect deliveries while minimising production time.
The expansion of the Wörrstadt gluing centre is picking up speed this summer: The commissioning the new Turbox BTX 2300 folder gluer (FKM) including the Powerpacker add-on unit from Bahmueller form the centrepiece.
„With this investment, we have an efficient and exceptionally fast system in our machine park that further improves our production processes and our products.“
Michael Weber, Head of Corporate Strategy + Marketing

The FKM has currently has the most modern set-up concept on the market. „This simplifies operation for our employees and shortens set-up times enormously,“ adds Weber.
During processing, the FKM sensor system checks the quality of the bonded joints and Ejects faulty packaging fully automatically and at full running speed if required. A tear strip applicator for applying tear strips, a silicone paper applicator for processing self-adhesive strips with millimetre precision and an angled conveyor belt from Enpro complete the machine.
The new downstream Powerpacker bundling machine takes the packaging directly from the shingle stream using the automatic counting and separating station. Michael Weber: „Downstream assemblies often slow down the production speed. Our new production line, on the other hand, is perfectly harmonised and can therefore maintain maximum speed."
Further line in planning
A palletising robot from MuK completes the investment: „Our new high-performance robot can stack several rows and layers of cardboard boxes on top of each other in a single operation, even before the stacks are placed on pallets. It couldn't be quicker today,“ adds Michael Weber. The stacks are automatically transported to the new pallet inserter via conveyor belts. This also places the pallets under the stacks fully automatically, thus completing the new folding crate line.
With its machinery, the site in Carl-Benz-Straße supports the strategic focus of the Thimm Expand production capacities, especially for e-commerce packaging, at the Wörrstadt plant: A further production line is currently being planned for 2023.
