European producer and co-packer of tomato products, Casalasco, is the first company in Europe to launch food products in aseptic carton packs from SIG where the polymers used are fully linked to forest-based, renewable sources via a mass balance system.
Casalasco recently renewed the visual identity of the Pomì tomato brand and, as part of this redesign decided in favour of the aseptic carton pack combiblocCompact 300ml from SIG with the packaging material Signature Full Barrier. Casalasco looks back on a decades-long partnership with SIG and already has seven SIG filling machines in use at its production plants in Italy.
„Switching to the SIGNature Full Barrier packaging material means that we can offer our consumers a packaging solution that is both sustainable and practical. We have a long tradition of producing high-quality tomato products - this includes treating nature responsibly. We continuously work in an ethical and sustainable way along the entire supply chain.“
Fabrizio Fichera, Marketing & Business Development Director at Casalasco Società Agricola S.p.A.

The polymers in SIGNature packaging material are fully connected to the forest-based material tall oil. This is a by-product of the paper industry and not an agricultural crop that could otherwise be used for food production. All three raw materials in SIGNature Full Barrier are linked to certified, responsible sources via mass balance systems: The raw cardboard comes from Wood from FSC-certified forests and other controlled sources; the forest-based, renewable polymers are certified according to ISCC PLUS; the ultra-thin aluminium layer that protects against light and oxygen through ASI (Aluminium Stewardship Initiative).
