The start-up traceless materials has won the StartMyBusiness Award 2022. Founded in 2020, the Hamburg-based company produces a biodegradable substitute plastic that can also be used for packaging.
With their plastic substitute, the two founders Anne Lamp and Johanna Baare are opening up new opportunities to combine sustainability and consumption. The two women and the team from the circular bioeconomy company are already launching the first pilot products made from the sustainable material with cooperation partners such as the online retailer OTTO and the aviation group Lufthansa.
Packaging sector is first focus
Packaging, disposable products and coatings - the use of sustainable plastic substitutes extends to almost all industries. This year, traceless materials received the StartMyBusiness Award in the „Sustainability“ category for its innovative work. Alongside many other nominated companies, traceless materials was able to assert itself and convince the expert jury of its own concept.
Traceless materials offers an alternative to conventional plastic and bioplastic, as the material is completely biodegradable under natural conditions. The bioplastics are based on waste products from the agricultural industry. The material is manufactured without the use of harmful chemicals and, in contrast to virgin plastic, causes no emissions during production and disposal, according to the company. up to 87 per cent less CO2-emissions.
According to the company, another difference to „conventional“ bioplastics is the compostability of the material. This is because many other materials would only decompose ideally under industrial conditions, the plastic substitute from traceless materials can also be broken down into its components in normal compost within two to nine weeks. This is possible because „natural“ materials are used for production and not artificially created polymers.
„In the long term, we will use traceless as Base material in granulate form and sell them to the plastics processing industry, which uses them to manufacture end products or packaging. The packaging sector is our primary focus - It has the greatest possible market potential and makes the biggest contribution to plastic pollution,“ says co-founder Johanna Baare.
