Manufacturer Nordson today proudly announces the success story of one of its customers. The company's own die for the production of shrink sleeve films enables a 30% higher tolerance and shorter start-up times.
Innovia is a manufacturer of Special foils and a business unit of CCL Industries Inc., the world's largest Manufacturer of labels. Innovia supplies the rapidly growing Shrink tubing segment Innovia's moulded film line produces transparent films, which are then printed on the inside, pulled over a container and finally heat-shrunk to fit the surface of the container. On the cast film line in which the Nordson die was installed, Innovia processes a Polystyrene mixture to a monoaxially aligned film.

The new nozzle, which replaced the one from another supplier, is an EDI® Autoflex™ VI-RE H40. Like the previous nozzle, the Autoflex nozzle automatically and adjusts the transverse thickness profile using data from a computerised downstream measurement system to make changes to the flexible upper lip of the nozzle.
The Flexible lip of an Autoflex nozzle consists of heat-controlled adjustment blocks that can be expand or contract, to adjust the lip gap at those areas of the film that are either too thick or too thin compared to the specified value.
During start-up, the quick adjustment of the thickness profile by the Autoflex system enables a Faster production of the saleable product. The design of the flow channel or distributor inside the nozzle also contributes to a shorter start-up time.
