The new „MLT-STA“ control system from „Baumer hhs“ in Krefeld has been developed for users who have not previously controlled the application of glue to corrugated board packaging. The cost-effective stand-alone solution with touchscreen operation can basically be combined with any cold glue application system available on the market, according to Baumer hhs.

The centrepiece of the new system is the optical Multi-track cold glue sensor „MLT-40“. This checks up to three glue lines on one and two sides. In fractions of a second, the sensor checks whether glue has been applied to the Adhesive flaps for corrugated cardboard packaging was applied in the intended places and whether there is no glue in the wrong places.
As an additional function, the „Edge Detection“ whether the Traces of glue have the specified distance to the edges of the adhesive flaps.
Mark faulty packaging with UV liquids
In the event of a fault, the machine operators receive Visual and acoustic signals. Corrugated board packaging with faulty glue application is automatically labelled with a UV liquid. Packaging marked in this way can be easily recognised and sorted out at the inliner ejection stations.
All test procedures are logged by the MLT-STA system and documented in PDF format. The measured values can also be exported as CSV tables.
Optical sensor makes all the difference
Andreas Schneiders emphasises the main difference between the MLT-STA and conventional systems as being the Use of an optical sensor out. Many older inliners worked on the basis of capacitive glue control or moisture measurement, explains the Corrugated Board Industry Manager at Baumer hhs. These methods are very unreliable, especially due to the fluctuating moisture content of corrugated board.
